Ludvig Åberg won his second PGA TOUR title with a strong second-round performance at The Genesis Invitational, coming from behind on Torrey Pines' South Course .
Åberg, 25, has quickly established himself as one of the best tee players in the world. He returned to the PGA TOUR last fall after taking time off to recover from knee surgery, and he brought a new driver with him. While he doesn't typically like to change clubs, Åberg used the time off to test Titleist's new GT2 driver, which will be released in the summer of 2024. He used it for three rounds at Torrey Pines, but for the final round, the Swede returned to Titleist's old TSR2 driver before winning his second PGA TOUR title in San Diego. Both drivers were fitted with Fujikura Ventus Black 6X shafts.
In addition to changing clubs, Åberg made another important adjustment to win the third Signature Event of the 2025 FedExCup season. He started the year with a different golf ball. Åberg switched to the 2025 Pro V1x model after testing with Fordie Pitts, Titleist's Director of Tour Testing and Research.
“Getting a little more forgiveness is really important with the driver,” Åberg shared in Titleist's report. “I didn't feel like my shots with the irons changed much, but the ball felt a little softer and I had better spin control around the greens. So I decided to use it."Our level of competition is very close, and a good season can be decided by just a few small scores. So if I can find an element that can help me play a little better, be a little more consistent or control the ball a little better, I'll definitely try it, and I think most other golfers will too.
"Despite back-to-back bogeys on holes 4 and 5 at the challenging Torrey Pines South course, Åberg birdied six of his final 14 holes, including a three-in-a-row sequence from holes 12 to 15, to win by one stroke over Maverick McNealy.Check out his full set of clubs at The Genesis Invitational below:
